Lawyers have weighed in on why Nick Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, withdrew from the high-profile murder case.
At the arraignment Wednesday, Alan told the judge he was withdrawing from the murder trial due to “circumstances beyond our control.”
Commenting on this surprising withdrawal, entertainment attorney Lisa Bonner said Page six that Alan removed himself from the case due to a ‘conflict of interest’.
“If you look at his statements ‘We have no choice’ and ‘circumstances beyond our control’, that’s probably an ethical or legal conflict. I would most likely say it’s a conflict of interest,” Lisa said.
“A lawyer must withdraw if there are certain conflicts,” the lawyer continued. “This could be something like the attorney or firm previously represented someone involved in the case – a witness, family members or anyone who could be a significant party. Those would be circumstances beyond our and Nick’s control.”
“Based on his carefully worded statement, I would say there is a conflict of interest,” Lisa added.
For those unfamiliar, Nick is currently in police custody on suspicion of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer. The couple was found dead in their home in Brentwood, California on December 14.
