Avatar: Fire and Ashes dominates the box office with full Na’vi might, as director James Cameron shares what he’ll do if the film doesn’t do enough business.
Not only has it experienced a smaller decline than its predecessor, The way of water, in its second week, but it has also raked in $64 million, bringing its domestic total to $217 million.
With the addition of $181 million in the overseas market, Avatar: Fire and Ashes has grossed $760 million. Despite these strong numbers, the latest film still has more to do.
This is because director James previously said that the future of the franchise depended on Fire and Ash becoming a mega-hit.
If the worst-case scenario occurs and the film doesn’t become a financial success on the scale of a billion-dollar series, the filmmaker says he will share the stories of Avatar 4 and 5 in a press conference.
“I don’t know if the saga goes beyond this point. I hope so. But you know, we prove that business case every time we go out… If for some reason we don’t manage to get to 4 and 5, I’ll hold a press conference and I’ll tell you what we were going to do. How does that work?” James told me earlier EW.
In addition to this abrupt option, there is another, the director said: renewing the scripts of the fourth and fifth parts. “There’s so much culture, backstory, and lateral detail fleshed out in these characters. I’d love to do something that’s at that level of granular detail.”
