BIRMINGHAM: Former Pakistan Test cricketer Wazir Mohammad passed away on Monday at the age of 95, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced.
Wazir, who represented Pakistan in twenty Tests from 1952 to 1959, was the elder brother of the legendary Hanif Mohammad and famous Test players Mushtaq Mohammad and Sadiq Mohammad.
In his seven-year Test career, Wazir amassed 801 in 33 innings at an average of 27.62 with the help of two centuries and three fifties.
He has the honor of being part of the Pakistan team that toured India in 1952 to play their first ever Test series.
In a statement issued by the PCB, chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his deep sorrow over the death of the legendary batsman and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.
“Wazir Muhammad was a good batsman and a very advanced person,” Naqvi said in a statement issued by PCB. “May Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in peace and grant patience to the bereaved.”
