Gaten Matarazzo calls ‘Stranger Things’ final scene ‘nerve-wracking’

Gaten Matarazzo remembers the scene from ‘Stranger Things’ in which he gave his farewell speech, and reflected on the intense pressure that came with it.

As fans will know, Gaten Matarazzo became extremely popular for his portrayal of Dustin Henderson in Stranger things.

In a new conversation with GQ magazineweighed the acting sensation in one of the scenes from the finale of the fifth and final part of the popular science fiction series.

“It was nerve-wracking,” he began.

Revealing just how intense the behind-the-scenes experience was, he explained, “I didn’t know it was coming until we started reading the script on the day of the final table read. I was honored to be given the opportunity, and it’s one of those that you really sink your teeth into.”

“We spent a day on it, and it’s a high-pressure situation where we have to perform in front of a large group of people.”

Despite the pressure, Matarazzo credited his old castmates for helping ground the moment, noting that their support made the scene feel more natural and emotionally authentic.

“But through it all, the kids — and I say ‘kids’ even though we’re in our 20s now — sat there and did their work off camera for me,” he noted.

“So I had to watch them and talk to them and try to make it all feel spontaneous. Obviously he planned the speech, but I don’t know how much came off the dome for him.”

Before drawing his conclusion, he noted, “I think a lot of that came from him at that moment. And I really enjoyed doing it.”
