Halle Berry reframes menopause as an ‘upgrade’ in a powerful new message

Halle Berry called menopause an “upgrade” in a woman’s life rather than a “downgrade.”

In the Oscar During the winner’s published keynote, the 59-year-old actress talked about how she changed her diet and exercise routine after menopause.

The Cat lady star, who spoke out about post-break shifts in the menstrual cycle, said: “It helped me sleep a little better. I was a little less moody. I could remember things a little better, but it also didn’t help…hormones were only as effective when my body was healthy.”

The Union actress made a big change in her diet with menopause. Previously, her diet was more focused on protein, but after menopause started, she “had to change the way she ate.”

“I found that at this time in my life, that no longer worked for me. I needed a little bit of carbs. I needed to eat more fiber. I needed more protein,” she noted.

Berry went on to say that she “didn’t need as much cardio as I used to. I now had to lift heavy, heavy weights, and I’ve never done that before.”

“Now I had to change everything about the way I lived my daily life. So I realized that this new body was the better version of myself,” Berry explained, “we often think, ‘Ooh, we’re getting older and we’re degrading a bit,’ but we’re not degrading when we know what to do – we’re upgrading, we’re evolving into the best version of ourselves.”

“We just need to know how to support this new body, this new place we’re in, and it’s not a disease, it’s a natural life transition that just needs to be supported by evidence-based therapies and information.”
