Halle Berry shares her take on aging in Hollywood

Halle Berry says she doesn’t believe she can be sidelined by society’s expectations.

The Oscar-winning actress, 54, recently spoke about aging in an industry where women are often marginalized as they age.

“Her character rang so true to me. You get to an age where you feel like you’re being marginalized and devalued. You feel it at work. You feel it from society,” Berry said The cut from her role as Sharon Coombs in the upcoming film Crime 101.

In the film, she stars opposite Chris Hemsworth as a middle-aged insurance broker who uses her beauty to negotiate with billionaire clients.

“But I have firmly decided that I will not allow myself to be erased. That is why I am on my menopause mission. I will be louder than ever before,” she added.

Berry, who approaches her 60th birthday in August, has been increasingly vocal about women’s health, especially menopause. She emphasized breaking the stigma around common symptoms such as vaginal dryness.

“Look, it happens to more than 60 percent of women as we get older. Everything becomes dry! When we talk about it and laugh about it, there is no shame or embarrassment anymore,” she said.
