Jason Earles has admitted he had to lie to get the role Hannah Montana.
Speaking about the The best of both, our world podcast, he admitted that he hid his real age, which ultimately landed him the gig on the popular podcast Disney series.
“I was desperately afraid that I would be fired and reassigned because I had a big secret.”
“When I auditioned for the show, I lied to them and said I was 18 years old.”
He went on to say that his real age was eventually discovered about “halfway through the first season,” and he also had to admit that he was married to Jennifer Earles at the time.
He said, “I remember one of the senior network executives showed up on show night and said, ‘Hey, so you’re 28,’ and I was like, ‘That’s me.’
“I thought, ‘Yeah, that girl I keep making out with? That’s my wife,'” he continued.
He noted that the director’s response was surprisingly pragmatic, even though it was accompanied by a specific request.
“[The executive] said, “Any more secrets? Is there anything we should know?’ I thought, ‘No.’ He says, ‘Do you have children?’ And I thought, ‘No kids.’ He said, ‘Let’s go ahead and keep it that way for a few years.’
