The tough and the beautiful has sparked controversy again with a new storyline.
In the new plot, Luna Nozawa (Lisa Yamada), who is obsessed with Will Spencer (Crew Morrow), has sex with him and pretends to be his girlfriend while he is drunk. She then becomes pregnant with his baby.
Fans are not happy with the show’s failure to label the incident as rape or sexual assault.
Heather Tom, who plays Will’s mother Katie Logan, and also writes and directs the series, has shared her stance on the matter. People“To be honest, if it was my son, I would look at what happened as a matter of consent and in that case there wasn’t a lot of consent taking place. And so yes, I would look at it as an assault.”
The actress, who shares sons Zane with husband James Achor, continued: “I think the terminology is what they’ve chosen to use, and I think people can, characters can defend that or not. Katie gets to a point where she definitely thinks her son was attacked. She definitely uses that terminology. She certainly didn’t necessarily start that.”
“But I think for me personally, as a person, as a woman and as a mother, consent is very important to me,” she said. “I talked to my son about consent from the beginning.”
“It’s something that, growing up, I didn’t necessarily put at the forefront of the way we were raised and how society saw it and how people talked about things,” Heather Tom said. “But for me it’s very important… I use this terminology with my child, and I think it’s definitely not gender specific.”
