Hilary Duff made that known early on Hollywood success jeopardized her education.
The 38-year-old star admitted that although she started her career as a child star, she barely spent any time in school and ultimately never completed her formal studies.
Speaking about the Podcast on Table Manners with Jessie Ware and Lennie WareDuff reflected on the way she prioritized her Hollywood career from a young age.
“[I received] zero education, but I know a lot about a lot of things.”
For those unfamiliar, the actress rose to prominence as a teenager when she starred in the lead role in Disney Channel hit Lizzie McGuire at just 14 years old, after starting her career in entertainment around the age of 10.
While answering a question about homeschooling, Duff revealed that her mother once suggested another option.
“My mom said, can you just go get your GED?”
Despite not getting her GED, which is equivalent to a high school diploma, Duff feels comfortable with where she is educationally.
“I feel like I educated myself on the different things I was interested in,” the actress said.
She also revealed that she loves reading books. She discovers new books whenever she gets the chance.
“I love reading. I mean, I don’t have as much time as I would like to read, but I really enjoy reading,” she added.
The actress added that she no longer feels pressured to fill the gaps in her education.
“I think I can stop worrying that my education wasn’t great because I feel like I have strengths in other areas, and it helps a little. And I’m not shy about asking a question about anything,” the child star added.
“I know my life was different from most people’s, and I don’t have to be ashamed of not knowing when a certain war happened. That’s what Google and ChatGPT are for.”
Duff, who shares son Luca with ex-husband Mike Comrie and daughters Banks, Mae and Townes with husband Matthew Koma, says motherhood has given her a fresh perspective on learning.
“Honestly, it’s so cool to connect with my child and have him learn things I didn’t know about because he’s really getting a great education,” Hilary concluded.
She added that ensuring quality education for her own children will be a top priority.
