Matthew McConaughey remembers life-changing advice

Matthew McConaughey is known for his acting skills, but before entering the showbiz world, he wanted to become a monk.

He breaks down these details of his life Jimmy Kimmel Live. The Academy Award-winning actor says his consideration of a hermetic life began after his time in Australia.

“I did that whole year in Australia in ’88 ’89. And for another ten years after that,” he recalls, adding, “Just quiet, even the hermetic life was somewhat attractive.”

His ambition to become a monk became so strong that he asked his friend, who was also a monk, about it. But his advice changed the actor’s life.

“That’s not what you’re here for,” his friend told him, noting that he is “a communicator and a storyteller, who should not allow himself to remain silent and away from society.”

In response, Jimmy says, “You let a monk talk you into not being a monk.” To this, the actor adds: “A monk helped me understand that this may not be my calling, but I still have time.”

Matthew’s decision to become an actor, meanwhile, turned out to be a success. He had several successful performances, including in Interstellar, The Wolf of Wall Street, And Real detective.
