Howard Stern Show‘s future seemed to be up in the air as rumors swirled about the host’s retirement.
It was thought the 71-year-old media personality would join Stephen Colbert after his talk show came to an end, as his tenure also comes to an end.
However, Stern did appear Andy Cohen Live on Friday, October 10, and shut down the rumors by saying, “I was on vacation and the next thing I know I was in Stephen Colbert Land, where I somehow got thrown out by the FCC. I don’t know what it was or because I’m too awake. Too awake? I don’t even know what a wake is. What is woke?”
The broadcaster continued, “The fact that if I’m too awake, the world turns upside down. I mean, holy s—, the things I do and talk about, I don’t even know what that means. But you know what? If it means I’m awake, bless God.”
The radio host further clarified that he has not been fired by Sirius XM and that any speculation is baseless.
Speaking about whether or not his tenure will be extended, Stern told Cohen, “If that works out, great. I love this company. I do. When I signed up, I thought it was 200,000 subscribers. XM was killing us. And my dream, just like when I went to radio stations, ‘Let’s win.’ And now today there is this robust company, and I’m very proud of it. And if I ultimately stay with this company, I will take responsibility for that.”
