James Blake requested his name be removed from Kanye West’s latest album.
As the rapper, also known as Ye, released his new LP ‘Bully’ on Friday, March 27, his longtime collaborator James expressed his desire to no longer be a part of Kanye’s latest work due to creative differences.
The singer and record producer went to Vault and opened up about why he doesn’t want to be credited as a producer on the song “This One Here,” a song included on “Bully.”
“The way I pitched his vocals and constructed the song from his freestyle is partly there, largely interspersed with other newer vocals [sic] lasts,” he wrote.
James further explained: “The spirit of my actual production is largely absent, apart from that. My original version is a completely different production in spirit.”
“Happy for the fans, but I’ve asked to be taken off the producer credits for now as I don’t want to take credit for other people’s work,” Blake continued. “This version is not what I made with Ye. It’s not personal!”
“I’m just at a point where I don’t want to be credited with music where I can’t influence the end result,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention that James and Kanye’s working relationship has been on the decline since Kanye made controversial anti-Semitic comments in 2022. The pair have been working together since 2014.
