The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended the membership of USA Cricket with immediate effect after an annual assessment and consultation with stakeholders.
The ICC board took the decision during its recent meeting and quoted repeated violations of the ICC constitution by USA Cricket.
According to the board, these infringements include the failure to set up a functional administrative framework, insufficient progress in the direction of the recognition of the national administrative body of the Olympic and Paralympic Committee of the United States (USOPC), and behavior that has damaged the reputation of both the US and International.
“The suspension is an unfortunate but necessary step to protect the long -term interests of the game,” the ICC said in a statement.
The board emphasized that the national teams of USA Cricket retain the right to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games (LA28).
To guarantee continuity, the ICC and its designated representatives will temporarily supervise the management and administration of the US national teams.
This scheme is intended to support the players, to keep Momentum in the direction of the Olympic inclusion and to support the high-performance and player development program that wants to strengthen the possibilities of the US cricketers.
With the support of ICC Management, the ICC’s standardization committee will define the steps that are necessary for USA Cricket to raise the suspension and to restore membership rights.
These measures include demonstrable improvements in governance, operations and general functioning within the cricket ecosystem. The committee will also follow the progress and offer advisory guidance.
The ICC confirmed its dedication to grow cricket in the United States and to protect the interests of athletes and the broader sporting ecosystem.
USA Cricket was placed ‘on notification’ in the ICC-annual General Meeting of 2024 for non-compliance with the membership criteria, with a period of 12 months granted to tackle these issues.
Despite guarantees and obligations to the ICC board in July 2025, the continuous non-compliance led to this suspension.
USA Cricket was specifically advised to prevent actions that endanger the Olympic inclusion of cricket or harm the reputation of the ICC.
