Indian cricketers have come to criticize the online sharing of photos with a “fake trophy”, hours after the team refused to collect the official Asian Cup 2025 -silver work.
The move caused spot, with many who wonder why the players would pose with a replica while they sniff the real prize, lift eyebrows about what they celebrated exactly.
The Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and batters, including Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma and others, uploaded images of themselves that pose with a trophy sticker, added to the images via editing, on social media platforms.
The images led to a wave of spot from fans, with many who question the purpose of a fake trophy display when the (Indian) team refused to collect the trophy from ACC -Chef Mohsin Naqvi.
A user wrote: “Another fake trophy … Just like the fake” on Sindoor “Glorie. Shine outside, hollow inside.”
Defense Analyst said: “From the delusions of cricket team that celebrates imaginary trophies, to the delusion for the Air Force and the delusion that cheered as a cartoon, India really lives in an alternative reality of his own imagination. Funny people!”
An Indian journalist said: “Suryakumar Yadav can do all the attitude and cheers, but he will have to live with the fact that, despite being a killer and an India captain, he was used as a political pawn for the grilling and fancy’s (and hypocrisy) of the government.”
Asia Cup Trophy Debacle
The closing ceremony of the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 ended in controversy on Sunday After the men in blue refused to collect the winners of Mohsin Naqvi, who also leads the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
India previously defeated Pakistan with five wickets in a tense final in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
However, the presentation after the game was delayed after the Indian side refused to accept the Naqvi trophy, causing the men’s game to be damaged.
The ceremony concluded without the traditional transfer and marked an unusual end of the tournament. No usual handshakes were exchanged between players, who continue a pattern of previous competitions where political understreams and increased tensions were clear.
“I was informed by the ACC that the Indian Cricket team will not collect any prizes tonight. So that concludes the presentation after the game,” said presenter Simon D down.
Pakistan skipper Salman Agha said that India’s actions during the tournament “were bad for cricket”.
