Does dark matter really exist? New theory suggests gravity is behaving strangely

Dark matter is considered the most mysterious substance in the universe, according to new research. It has been a thorn in the side of physicists; despite surpassing ordinary matter by a ratio of 5 to 1, it remains invisible.

Scientists are intrigued by the search for particles that could form dark matter. In this regard, Kumar prescribed Phys.org: “The mystery of dark matter – invisible, ubiquitous and essential to standard cosmology, has hung over physics for decades.”

The reason scientists have inferred the presence of dark matter is because it interacts with light, but due to the gravitational effects. In fact, the first hint of dark matter came from the observation that galaxies were spinning much faster than expected; too fast to hold together solely by the gravity of their visible matter.

Although dark matter is believed to account for 85% of the matter in the universe, removing it from our cosmological models would have profound consequences. The recent approach does not aim to completely replace dark matter, but underlines the hidden complexity of gravity and suggests that what we attribute to dark matter could in fact come from gravity itself.
