Isla Fisher talks about rediscovering herself and building a new life after her divorce from Sacha Baron Cohen.
In a new interview with Elle Decoration UK., published on Wednesday, the 49-year-old Now you see me actress reflected on adjusting to her new home in London and single life for the first time in years.
“When it all came down, I cried a little bit because this was my first time living in my own home as a single woman,” Fisher said of settling down.
Fisher and Baron Cohen, 54, finalized their divorce in June after 13 years of marriage. The couple, who married in 2010, announced their divorce in 2023 and share three children – two daughters and a son – who they have always kept out of the public eye.
“Trying to create a new life from the ground up, at least emotionally, has been challenging, but very rewarding,” says Fisher. Despite the big change in her life, she said she felt accomplished.
“I’m enjoying this new version of my life. I don’t have to party in my house anymore. I like to take a bath. I light some candles, bring my laptop and put on something on Netflix. That’s as exciting as it gets.”
Announcing their separation, the couple said in a joint statement: “We are proud of all we have achieved together and, while continuing our great respect for each other, we remain friends and committed to co-parenting our wonderful children.”
Over the summer, Fisher said Harper’s Bazaar Australia, she is focused on her next chapter. “I’m very excited about the next chapter. I’m refocusing on my career because before I was very focused on my children,” she said.
Fisher added that the transition has helped her redefine herself: “I’m trying to remind myself of my new identity as someone outside of a partnership and stay as alive as possible. Whenever there’s change, it’s hard to adapt. But hopefully I’ll do a good job.”
