From the very beginning, Jack Black says he knew acting was his only career path. He explains that he never had a job before working in Hollywood.
“Oh my God, this is an embarrassing answer. I’ve never had a job,” he says Rotten Tomatoes. However, he adds that he worked briefly in one job.
It was telemarketing. But that’s where the Jumanji star remembers how badly he failed. “I was doing telemarketing one day, and I didn’t make one sale, and I thought, ‘I can already see my soul being sucked dry.’ And I bailed, and I made a decision on the spot.”
“It was like, ‘It’s showbiz or bust. I’m all about acting or music, and if I can’t do it, I’m just going to live with my mom. I know that sounds normal.’ [weird]. I had no plan B, no backup,” he continues, adding, “You didn’t need it. You were meant for this.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Paul Rudd, who also stars Anacondalooks back on the collaboration with Jack and says: “It was really the first time”, he adds: “I really had to see [Black] in action.”
“People are rightly in awe of him. And the best part of it all was that no matter who it was, at any age – especially kids – Jack is such a good guy, it was amazing to see him interact with everyone,” he says.
