James Cameron, who previously spoke out about expanding the Avatar franchise if it got enough sales to justify the staggering cost.
So, after Avatar: Fire and Ashes has crossed the billion dollar mark at the box office, the director of the film series has said that the sequel, Avatar 4, is now a certainty.
In a conversation with Screen Rant at the Saturn Awards, he said that the fourth installment is on the way, adding that he is considering “audience feedback” when deciding where to take the franchise.
His previous comments about the state of the industry led to concerns that his dream of completing the Avatar universe would never become a reality.
“The thing is, the film industry is depressed right now. Avatar 3 costs a lot of money,” he said TVBS News. “We have to do it right to keep going. We have to do it right, and we have to figure out how to make Avatar movies cheaper to keep going.”
Although it’s worth mentioning that Avatar: Fire and Ashes earned $870 million less than The waterway.
Meanwhile, two more Avatar installments, which will arrive in 2029 and 2031, are on the horizon, as Disney had promised, but there is no contractual obligation to bind the studio to fulfill them.
