A GoFundMe page has just been set up by the late’s family Dawson Creek‘s actor James Van Der Beek, whose finances dwindled during his battle with cancer.
The news of his death was confirmed on February 11, after a long battle with colon cancer.
The actor is survived by his wife, Kimberley Van Der Beek, and their six children. In an initial statement announcing his death, they shared: “Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed away peacefully this morning. He met his final days with courage, faith and grace.”
“There is much to share about his wishes, love for humanity and the sanctity of time. Those days will come. For now, we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother and friend,” the family concluded.
Van Der Beek had been open about his health problems after going public with his diagnosis in 2024 and now, in late 2025, he began selling memorabilia from film sets, as well as from Dawson’s Creek, which he had kept safely with him over the years.
He said he chose to sell the items: “With all the recent twists and turns that life has presented lately, it’s clear that the time is now.”
In light of the family’s financial situation following his battle with cancer, his wife, Kimberly, has launched a GoFundMe page to cover essential living expenses, bills and their six children’s education.
The fundraiser description reads: “During his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial pressure as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care.”
“In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children face an uncertain future. The costs of James’ medical care and the long battle with cancer have left the family without financial resources. They are working hard to remain in their home and ensure that the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time,” the report concludes.
Currently, the GoFundMe has raised over $1.1 million for the Van Der Beek family, and the goal is to reach $1.3 million.
