Jamie Lee Curtis reveals an important lesson she’s learned through her 60s
Jamie Lee Curtis talks about how turning 60 made her realize she has no time to waste, especially on toxic people.
In a recent conversation with AARP‘S Movies for adults for a story, the 67-year-old actress got candid about getting older, sharing that she once called the industry “ageist, misogynistic and pigeonholed.”
“I turned 60 and realized that sooner or later I was going to die,” Curris admitted.
She continued, “Sooner than later means sooner than later. And that understanding meant I had no time to waste. Not wasting time on toxic people, on relationships that don’t serve me.’
“I’ve been retiring since I was 30 and saying, ‘I’m going to get out of this,’ because the industry I’m in is a cruel, cruel industry, especially as we age.”
She added: “There’s a layoff of people. I’ve been looking at it a lot with my parents (Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh). So I just decided to embrace that.”
Curtis went on to say that with growing older comes “freedom,” such as the Crazy Friday star shared, she now embraces her appearance with all her heart.
“[Freedom means] By accepting my crepey skin and showing it anyway, I understand what I look like. I look in the mirror. I get it. And I don’t need to change it,” she noted.
Ee Bear star added, “Everything I do has to come from emotion, and for me emotion is freedom. I feel people. That’s been a gift to me as an actor, because all acting is emotion with words.”
