Jason Derulo pushes back against a lawsuit that is filed by two brothers who claim that they were injured and mistreated while working in his country house in California.
Judicial documents obtained by US Weekly reveal that the singer, 35, has denied all allegations and asked that the case would be thrown away.
The lawsuit, submitted on 8 May, accuses Derulo, his parents Jocelyne and Joel Desrouleaux, Pepe Construction and other parties of negligence, unlawful termination, emotional need and employment transfer.
Juan Zetina and his brother Alvaro claimed that unsafe working conditions in the Tarzana house of the star caused serious injury and financial setbacks.
According to the complaint, Juan was hired for the first time for construction work at the property and received $ 300 a day in cash before he later received checks.
He said he was instructed to use those payments to cover other employees.
In 2024 he was asked to make more help, including Alvaro. The brothers said they worked full services, with Juan received $ 2,500 a week and paid Alvaro $ 270 a day.
The problems started in March 2024, when Alvaro reportedly fell from scaffolding in the suit as ‘dangerous and defective’.
The fall left him unconscious and the application claimed that he was brought into urgent care before he was transferred to the Cedars-Sinai hospital because of the severity of his injuries.
Alvaro said he was bedridden for six months and was unable to return to work until December 2024, when he was paid less than before.
The brothers claim that Derulo Alvaro later asked to sign an exemption that releases him from liability in exchange for continuous wages.
When he refused, they claim that Juan was fired, reducing his weekly income by more than half.
Both men said that the test caused them emotional need, including “fear, humiliation and loss of dignity.”
In his answer, Derulo argued that any injuries were not caused by him, but by third parties or “an act of God.”
His legal team also accused the brothers of negligence and insisted that they contributed to their own injuries.
Derulo asks the court to completely reject the case, while his family does not yet have to give a formal answer. The legal struggle remains underway.
