Jeremy Allen White opened up about feeling pressure to play Bruce Springsteen in the upcoming biopic Deliver me from nothing.
The Emmy-winning actor admitted that stepping into the shoes of such an iconic musician came with some nerves, especially since Springsteen himself was around during the first week of filming.
I talk to Austin Butler for Interview magazineWhite said: “That first week was particularly nervous for me. Bruce was around and I spoke to him at the end of the week.”
I thought, ‘If I could just get a little space to try to find my footing.’
He said Springsteen was very understanding and gave him the time he needed. “He said, ‘I completely understand. No problem,'” he recalls.
“He was gone for two days, and then he came back and asked, ‘What was that room like?'”
After overcoming his nerves, The Iron Claw actor said the music legend became a strong source of encouragement.
Springsteen often checked in with messages that made him feel more confident. “He would text me at night and give me feedback or support. It helped me sleep at night.”
Deliver me from nothingdirected by Scott Cooper, tells the story behind Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska and delves into his emotional and creative process.
