Jesse Eisenberg recently surprised fans with a selfless decision.
The social network actor reveals he will donate a kidney to a stranger in mid-December, calling it a “no-brainer” altruistic act.
Jesse, who is currently promoting a new movie Now you see me: not anymoreis known for routinely donating blood over the years.
Now he has appeared on the TODAY show on October 30 as he reveals: “I’m donating my kidney in six weeks. For real.”
When asked why he chooses to donate a kidney, Jesse replies: “I’ve been bitten by the blood donation bug. I love it.”
Zombieland actor adds: “I’ll be making an altruistic donation in mid-December.”
According to Weill Cornell Medicine, an altruistic donation occurs “when someone donates an organ to a stranger,” as the “recipient is selected based on medical compatibility.”
Jesse also advises other people to donate an organ, explaining, “It’s essentially risk-free and thus necessary.”
“I think people will realize it’s a no-brainer, if you have the time and the inclination,” notes A real pain actor.
Meanwhile, Jesse, who is father to eight-year-old son Banner, says his donation will ensure his family can be considered a priority in the future if they ever need a living kidney donation, according to the National Kidney Foundation’s family voucher program.
“The way it works now is you can put a list of who you want to be first at the top of the list. So it’s risk-free for my family as well,” says the 42-year-old actor.
Later, fans take to the comments section TODAY social media page as one person wrote: “Wow!! Really support him. I’m speechless!”
Another comment: “Thank you Jesse for your efforts and for using your platform to support living kidney donation.”
