Jesy Nelson recently shared that her twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, were diagnosed with a serious muscle disease.
For those who don’t know, the 34-year-old English singer is widely recognized as a member of the girl group Small mix, her daughters gave birth prematurely in May 2025.
Nelson shares her relationship with her musician Zion Foster, to whom she announced her engagement in September 2025.
On Sunday, January 4, 2026, the mother of two posted to her Instagram a moving video, revealing that Ocean and Story had been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy after “the most grueling three or four months.”
Spinal muscular atrophy is a genetic condition that causes “progressive muscle weakness and wasting (atrophy) due to the degeneration of motor neurons in the spinal cord.”
With tears in her eyes, she stated that the devastating disease “affects every muscle in the body, down to the legs, the arms, breathing and swallowing,” adding that “what the disease does over time is it kills the muscles in the body.”
Struggling to hold back tears, Nelson explained that “if it is not treated in time, your baby’s life expectancy will not exceed two years.”
The Bounce back crooner revealed that Great Ormond Street has prescribed Ocean and Story “will probably never walk again or regain their neck strength so they will be disabled.”
Notably, “the best we can do right now is treat them and hope for the best,” Jesy Nelson said.
