Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have finally broken their silence following the arrest of their son Joseph. For those unfamiliar, Joseph is accused of molesting a 9-year-old girl.
“Jim Bob and Michelle are heartbroken over this entire situation,” a representative for the couple said in a statement Page six on Monday, March 30.
“Right now they are focused on loving and helping their family [his wife] Kendra and her children during this difficult time,” said a spokesperson. “They are praying for the victim. They ask for privacy and appreciate the kind words and prayers offered by so many.”
Joseph was arrested in Florida on March 18 on charges of molesting a girl under the age of 12.
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the 31-year-old was charged with lewd and lascivious conduct toward the victim. The father of four was denied visits from loved ones while in prison in Arkansas.
At last report, Joseph’s wife, Kendra Caldwell, was also arrested and charged in Arkansas. However, a spokesperson for the family said this People magazine that the charges against Kendra are “completely unrelated” to the serious charges her husband is expected to face in Florida.
“She is not suspected or accused of participating in his alleged crime,” the rep said.
For those unfamiliar, Joseph and Kendra exchanged vows in 2017. The couple shares four children together: son Garrett, 7, daughters Addison, 6, and Brooklyn Praise, 5; and son Justus, 3.
