Sean “Diddy” Combs’ hope for a massively reduced sentence is crushed.
The conviction of the Music Mogul officially started in the early hours of Friday 3 October in a federal courthouse in New York City. His family – including his mother, Janice Combs and six of his seven children – arrived in a show of solidarity in court, and some of his children are also expected to speak.
Combs, 55, was found guilty of two prostitution in May. His public prosecutors insist on a penalty of 11 years and three months in prison, while Combs’ lawyers should receive no more than 14 months.
In the run-up to the conviction, Combs and his family wrote several letters to Judge Arun Subramanian-Die The case argues for clementia. The founder of the Bad Boy Record admitted that he made ‘mistakes’, but insisted that he would never repeat them.
Jude Subramanian said, however, that he “did not see a basis for deviation from the conviction guidelines and said he will make sure that he makes a sentence that is sufficient but no greater than ‘the advisory guidelines that suggest a conviction of 70-87 months in prison (five to seven years), as reported by CBS News.
The judge also stated that Combs could not receive an adjustment of the conviction for ‘acceptance of responsibility’, and noted that Combs ‘has refused the facts of debt’ and ‘has pronounced a repentance of the accusation of transporting people for prostitution’ during his trial, according to his trial NBC News.
