Julia Michaels opened about how making a decisive shift in her music career and following her instincts “life -changing” turned out to be.
The Trouble Singer left the Republic Records in 2023 after more than seven years and has since shared her experience to only make music.
While attending the IHeartradio Music Festival in Las Vegas, the What a time Crooner spoke with the Mensmagazine About her daring move.
“It feels great. I started my label last year and it just feels great to be able to have creative control, creative freedom to be able to take my strength back,” she told the outlet.
“I can release songs again. I can make music videos again. I get to see my fans again, to perform. So it’s just life -changing.”
The six-fold Grammy nominated musician also explained the reason behind farewell to Republic Records.
“I just felt that I was stuck on a label where perhaps greater priorities were than me. It is really difficult to make people believe in you, and in turn you don’t start to believe in yourself.”
She continued: “It was necessary to leave my label for me to turn music off again.”
With her newly found shift in career, the 31-year-old artist released a new single, No heartache has killed me yetOn September 19, next to a video clip where she is seen through the streets of New York City.
The song follows her May 2025 EP, Second selfwhich was also released under her GFY plates.
