Julianne Hough says she’s returning to the big screen The bride! has reignited her passion for acting after years away from film.
The 37-year-old star appears in the new film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal alongside Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale.
At the film’s U.S. premiere in New York City on March 3, Hough said she felt honored to return to film with such a high-profile project.
“Well, first of all, this movie isn’t a musical, but there has been movement and it’s fun,” she said. “It’s expressive, it’s going to be explosive and everyone is just crazy good at what they do.”
“To be with this caliber of talent with this incredible film, because it is the first film I have made in many, many years, I am very honored,” she added.
Hough previously appeared in films including Safe haven, Burlesque, FootlessAnd Rock of Ages. In recent years she has been best known for co-hosting Dancing with the stars alongside Alfonso Ribeiro since 2023.
Hough explained what drew her back to acting, saying the film’s message about female voices resonated deeply with her.
“I think the message of women’s voices is being heard in a new way. I couldn’t imagine a better way and time to deliver that,” she said.
Hough also praised Gyllenhaal and said she was extremely excited to work with the filmmaker.
“She’s just so generous with her presence and her direction, making everyone feel so seen and valued, no matter how big or small your role is,” Hough said, noting that she has a small role in the film.
