Following a shock ban for Kanye West in Britain, his fans were concerned whether his next stop in the Netherlands would suffer a similar fate.
However, the concerns came to an end when Migration Minister Bart van den Brink said that there is so far no indication of a ban on the Chicago rapper from performing in the country on June 6 and 8.
“Once I have such information, I will act accordingly. Based on what is currently known to me, I have no indications that an entry ban could be applied in this case,” he said in a statement to AFP.
Although there is still fear among Ye’s fanbase that the situation could change in the near future, pressure has been put on the Dutch government to ban Ye from entering the country.
In a statement to the Dutch Minister of Justice, the Jewish interest group Central Jewish Consultation urged him to follow the British step by blocking West’s shows in Arnhem.
“The United Kingdom and Australia have drawn a line. We ask GelreDome and the Dutch government to apply the same standards,” said Chanan Hertzberger, head of the organization.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to criticize the Wireless Festival for inviting Ye and explain why his government banned the Grammy winner from entering the country.
“Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless,” Starmer noted, doubling down on his government stance to firmly protect the British Jewish community.
“This administration stands firmly with the Jewish community,” he wrote, adding as a warning to those spreading the scourge of anti-Semitism.
“We will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of anti-Semitism.”
The fiery statement further adds that necessary action will be taken to protect public interest.
“We will always take the necessary action to protect the public and uphold our values,” Starmer wrote.
