Kanye West’s last concert in London was in 2015. Now, more than ten years later, he returns to the city.
Although a legion of his fans were delighted at the announcement, some members of the public expressed anger at the decision.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan is one of them.
Days after announcing the Wireless Festival 2026, a spokesperson for the British figure said: “We are clear that this artist’s past comments and actions are offensive, wrong and simply do not reflect London’s values.”
“This was a decision made by the festival organizers and not a decision involving City Hall,” the official told Variety.
The Jewish Leadership Council similarly denounced the organizers’ decision to invite West. “West has repeatedly used his platform to spread anti-Semitism and pro-Nazi messages.”
“Any venue or festival should reconsider before offering Kanye West a platform to spread his anti-Semitism,” the group said in a statement to the Guardian.
West previously apologized in an advertisement in The Wall Street Journal for his past anti-Semitic outbursts.
“This is because these remorseful feelings weighed so heavily on my heart and weighed on my spirit. I owe a huge apology once again for everything I said that especially hurt the Jewish and Black communities.”
West is currently dominating the music scene with his latest album, Bully.
