Kate Beckinsale says it was preventable tragedy

An inquest into the death of former Strictly Come Dancing professional Robin Windsor has found that his ‘vulnerability to rejection both emotionally and professionally’ were factors in the decline of his mental health.

Windsor, who took part in the BBC One series from 2010 to 2013, died in February 2024 aged 44.

According to the BBC, the inquest at West London Coroner’s Court heard he was found dead in a hotel room in Shepherd’s Bush, west London.

A report in The Telegraph quoted Windsor’s former co-star as saying the deceased had suffered
“too much pain, too much disappointment” before ending his own life.

British actress Kate Beckinsale shared screenshots of The Telegraph’s story on Instagram and expressed her deep sadness at what Windsor has experienced.

She wrote: “What an absolutely senseless and preventable tragedy. Just a reminder to be careful around people. Maybe don’t let them apologize for feeling overwhelming pain… my mother loved this show. She was often a little disappointed when I Facetimed her watching it, even though she was always so excited to hear from me. This didn’t have to happen. This man didn’t have to feel so devastated and alone.”

They said: “Robin Jamie Windsor suffered from childhood trauma, he was vulnerable to rejection, both emotionally and professionally.

“We also agree that loneliness, lack of emotional maturity, the pressures of mounting debt, lack of consistent mental health care and support and recurring grief are all contributing factors to the deterioration of Robin Jamie Windsor’s mental health, which in turn led to him taking his own life.”

In a statement, the Windsor family said: “It is with great sadness that we acknowledge that Robin has committed suicide. As a family, together with Robin’s close friends, we can now move forward and try, over time, to rebuild our lives.

“We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has shown us kindness, compassion and support during the long and difficult period since Robin’s death.

“Thank you to everyone who remembered Robin and marked his life with so much love.”
