Keke Palmer reveals whether she drew inspiration from the original ‘The Burbs’ film

Keke Palmer balances inspiration and originality in her vision The Burbs.

Palmer stars in and serves as executive producer of Peacock’s new dark comedy series. The Burbs is based on the 1989 film of the same name, in which Tom Hanks played the leading role.

“I wasn’t particularly familiar with that movie, no, but obviously became very familiar after the show,” she said People.

“I’m someone who has always looked up to Tom Hanks as an entertainer because he has the quality of being funny and doing unique character work, but he also feels completely genuine,” Palmer continued. “And so I think more than anything, that’s what I wanted to make sure I captured.”

The Good luck star “always thinks about that” in whatever role she takes on: “Being genuine, finding unique ways to embody this person and hopefully finding moments of levity.”

“Because I think that’s true to life,” she explained, “not everything is always so dramatic, you know what I mean? And so that was my attempt to make sure that we at least keep the atmosphere and the tone where it feels warm, you feel safe enough to lean in, but then also interested enough to take a step back.”
