Kourtney Kardashian is celebrating a special moment with his stepchildren amid renewed tensions surrounding husband Travis Barker’s ex Shanna Moakler.
The Kardashians The 46-year-old star marked her eldest stepdaughter Atiana De La Hoya’s 27th birthday on Sunday with a video of the family gathered outside. The clip showed the birthday girl being surprised when a candlelit cake was brought out, prompting Atiana to appear emotional and tell the group she was going to cry as they sang to her.
“Wait, I think I’m going to cry,” Atiana said as she looked at the camera. Kardashian then told the group behind the camera, “Sing it, guys,” and asked everyone to sing the birthday song.
The reality star also tagged Atiana and wrote “A blessing” on the clip, referencing her bond with her stepdaughter.
Barker also shared a simple birthday message for Atiana, while the birthday girl also shared glimpses of her celebrations on social media, which included an outdoor movie night and a homemade cake.
Barker shares children Landon and Alabama with ex-wife Shanna Moakler, and has remained close to Atiana, who Moakler shares with boxer Oscar De La Hoya. Kardashian, meanwhile, shares three children with Scott Disick, and a son Rocky with Barker.
The family dynamic hasn’t been without tension, however, as Moakler has previously accused Kardashian of crossing boundaries in her relationship with Barker’s children.
In previous interviews, Moakler claimed that the dynamics of co-parenting were never properly discussed and suggested that boundaries had been crossed regarding her role as a mother.
“I don’t think those women are having those conversations with anyone,” Moakler said on a Feb. 27 episode of the series. When reality hits podcast hosted by Brittany Cartwright.
The former Miss USA has also expressed concerns about feeling left out of decisions involving the children.
“At one point I felt it was disrespectful,” Moakler added. “There were times when I thought, ‘Wow, if I had your kids, I wouldn’t be doing the things you’re doing with my kids.'”
Despite the friction, Kardashian has said she approaches her role as stepmother carefully and says she tries to support Barker’s children in whatever way they feel comfortable — as a friend or as a parental figure.
