Leonardo DiCaprio may be Hollywood’s biggest star, but he’s also a private individual who values his privacy.
He explains his approach in an interview with TIME after being named Entertainer of the Year. “It’s been a balance I’ve managed my entire adult life.”
“And I’m still no expert. I think my simple philosophy is: only go out and do something if you have something to say, or if you have something to show. Otherwise, just disappear as much as possible,” the star continues.
His strategy for career longevity is simple. Avoid going out in public as much as possible. “I thought, ‘Okay, how can I have a long career?’ Because I love what I do, and I think the best way to have a long career is to stay out of people’s attention.”
This explains why the Academy Award-winning star prefers to cover his face in public, be it a star-studded wedding.
It is a reference to the wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez earlier this year. There, the Commencement The star was snapped wearing a hat to protect his face from the paparazzi. But this face covering comes off when the actor has to promote his work.
Leo, who catapulted to stardom with his role in Titanichad previously opened up about the impact of fame on his privacy.
‘Before Titanic I had no idea what it all meant. It was shocking. People were like, “Do you realize how big this movie is?” I said, “Yes, it’s big. It’s a big movie,” he said Term in 2016.
