Lili Reinhart opens up about suicidal thoughts

Lili Reinhart talks about suicidal thoughts

Lili Reinhart gets refreshingly candid about her mental health.

The 29-year-old Hal & Harper star was on Tuesday’s episode of the series Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky podcast, which shares how she’s focusing on her well-being, especially after going off her birth control and antidepressants.

“When I stopped taking my antidepressants, I realized I had a plethora of other things that were being suppressed by medication,” she explained.

While she was happy to know her meds were doing something, she also realized she had “very serious” attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and “terrible” premenstrual dysphoric disorder, also known as PMDD.

One of the hallmarks of PMDD is severe depression and Lili told Monica that she felt ‘suicidal’ the week before her period.

“And I didn’t know I felt that way until I stopped taking medications. But people use those medications and birth control to suppress that feeling, so it makes sense that I went off birth control and antidepressants and suddenly I felt those feelings,” she said.

Once she became aware of the feelings “bubbling beneath the surface,” Lili was able to take steps to deal with them.

“I’m working on it and I understand, ‘OK, this is the day it might happen, let’s be careful with ourselves a few days earlier,’” said the Riverdale alum shared.

“And I write it down in my little note-taking app. I keep track of my symptoms and the day I actually get it and stuff like that, so I can kind of keep track of what day I’m going to feel the worst,” Lili Reinhart concluded.
