Lorde flipped the script as she welcomed Charli XCX to the stage this time for a surprise performance of their viral remix Girl, so confusing.
On Saturday evening, October 18, during her Ultrasound World Tour stop at the Kia Forum, Los Angeles, Lorde called out to the crowd, asking, “Can I trust you?”
Then came the twist when the Royal houses singer, at the center of the B-stage of the 18,000-capacity venue, took out a sharpie and wrote a single word “GIRL” on her palm.
As her hand was projected onto the giant screens, the crowd immediately erupted and realized what was about to happen.
Clips of Charli started flashing on the screen, and the Brat hitmaker emerged from the back of the venue and strode across the floor as she launched into the song’s opening verse, which is a raw reflection on the complexities of female friendship.
Meanwhile, Lorde, 28, danced, waved and jumped in the spotlight. She later joined in with her own verse from the remix, which went viral during the brat-green summer of 2024.
The audience sings along and feeds the duo’s energy with every text and movement. The two pop disruptors wrapped the performance side by side, dancing and laughing in an outburst of pure joy.
For the unversed, the iconic couple previously performed the Brat remix during Charli and Troye Sivan’s Sweat Tour stop at New York’s Madison Square Garden last September, as well as Charli’s Coachella in April.
