Margot Robbie says she’s making a conscious effort to keep her private life under wraps as she moves toward fame.
The Barbie star, 35, told British Vogue in a recent interview that has most to do with protecting her son, whom she welcomed in October 2024 with husband Tom Ackerley, also 35.
“I try to keep that side of things private and protected[ing] him,” she told the magazine.
“Earlier in my career I spoke more freely in interviews. I’ve been burned so many times when people took what I said out of context,” Robbie explains.
“And I read things all the time where people put me in quotes and say things I’ve never said before.”
She continued: “I remember the first time, ten years ago, I saw that in a newspaper and I couldn’t ignore it. I thought, ‘They just made it up?’ There was no way I could change or control it. I just had to accept that.”
The Australian actress, who married Ackerley in December 2016, added that her 30s made her set clearer boundaries.
“When you go from 20 to 30 and beyond, you think, ‘I’m going to do things differently. These are my new boundaries,” she added.
Robbie also talked about filming Wuthering Heights three months after delivery. “I was in a completely different head space. I wasn’t doing my usual routine. It was more haphazard,” she told the outlet.
Writer-director Emerald Fennell encouraged her to focus on the moment rather than the preparation, which Robbie described as “a lovely way to ease my anxiety.”
“It was about being in my body and not in my head,” she concluded.
