Matt Damon takes a stroll down memory lane from his childhood friendship with Ben Affleck.
The longtime friends recently interviewed each other to promote their new crime thriller film, The Rip, which debuts on Netflix on January 16.
During the conversation, Matt and Ben reflected on their unique bond when they were asked about the “key to making a friendship last longer than 40 years.”
“Well, when I think about making a friendship for the last time, which I…” Ben said jokingly.
Damon replied, “We were both obsessed with it [making movies and acting] from a young age, which definitely bonded us.”
He went on to say, “But looking back, it’s kind of weird because we came from a city where that didn’t exist.”
To which Affleck replied, “That wasn’t even an option.”
“I think we were fucking weird kids,” Matt joked.
Ben continued to express his thoughts on the subject, saying, “Presumptuous and nerdy and kind of outrageous. The shared interest, like finding the job you love and then doing it with your friends, that’s really fun because you spend so much time at work.”

They began their acting careers together and broke into the industry with their 1997 film Good Will Hunting, which they co-wrote and starred in.
The film later won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
Following their successful Hollywood careers over the years, Ben and Damon are now co-owners of production company Artist Equity, which has produced films like The Last Duel, Air and more.
