Matthew Fox shared the rare reason behind his retreat from acting after gaining worldwide fame, and what drew him back to it after years away.

In a recent interview with VarietyFox opened up about his disappearance Hollywood and revealed that after years of an intense work schedule and promotional commitments, a wave of guilt washed over him.

“I felt like it was time to get really intense with my family,” he said. “I had missed part of their childhood because I was on set all the time Lost and making films and promoting everything,” he added.

For those unfamiliar, the actor received immense success after the show Lost premiered in 2004, but before he reached the height of fame, Fox had already tied the knot with Margherita Ronchi and fathered two sons, Kyle and Byron.

After the last episode, the actor continued to work in films like Alex Cross, Emperor And Bone Tomahawk, but due to the increasing pressure of responsibility as a father, Fox made the decision to take a seven-year career break in 2014.

“It was the right time for me to step back and take a moment to connect with the people I love and care about most in the world,” he continued.

However, Fox admitted that leaving his craft forever wasn’t his thing, and the actor eventually returned to acting in 2021.

“I’ve missed telling stories a little bit,” he stated.

Later, when producer Taylor Sheridan asked him about the golden opportunity to star The MadisonFox didn’t hesitate to get involved.

“I thought, ‘Yeah, I’m in,’” Fox said, noting that after all those lost years, the actor had finally found a way to balance work and family life.
