Matthew McConaughey said marriage isn’t always a bed of roses, but it is actually “humanly impractical” for a couple to remain in the honeymoon phase.
In a recent conversation with Jay Shetty on his On Purpose podcast, the 56-year-old actor opened up about his married life with wife Camila Alves McConaughey.
Matthew, who tied the knot with Camila in 2012 after a six-year relationship, noted that it is “unfair” to look for “perfection” in marriage.
“That’s a difficult note to deal with when you project that onto someone,” the actor said of marriage. “Neither of you can comply.”
“And this isn’t a popular saying with my wife, but maybe I’m too practical about love, maybe I’m not romantic enough about it – I don’t understand how the honeymoon can last forever.”
Matthew suggested that marriage should be like a “30-watt light bulb,” which is “not as bright, but lasts longer and is more realistic for you and her.”
“It’s more human and it’s still beautiful,” he added. ‘You promise to love each other, for example in a marriage, and that goes through sickness and health until death. My love is not up for debate, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t require maintenance.’
It is pertinent to mention that Matthew and Camila share three children, Levi, Vida and Livingston.
