Melissa Joan Hart shares insights into her “journey to longevity,” which includes losing weight with just a small change in her diet.
The actress, who turned 50, revealed that she lost almost 20 pounds despite experiencing perimenopause symptoms. by just cutting out sugar and alcohol.
The Clarissa explains it all alum told People that she was training “really hard” as part of “a health journey, like a longevity journey.”
“I just wanted to feel better. It had nothing to do with losing weight. I really didn’t think I could lose weight anymore. Being in midlife and perimenopause and all that stuff, I was like, ‘Can I really lose weight? I don’t think I can,'” she continued.
Given her hormonal changes during perimenopause, which cause women to “gain weight around the midsection,” according to the Mayo Clinic, Hart managed to lose “about 18 pounds last year.”
She just wanted to ‘feel better’. “And by doing that and discovering fasting, cutting back on sugar, cutting down on alcohol, I haven’t had a drink in over a year,” Hart noted.
“I just don’t even enjoy drinking. So why bother? So I cut these things out of my life and I started feeling better. And by doing that, I lost a lot of weight and felt pretty good,” she continued.
Although she doesn’t like water, Hart tries to keep herself hydrated.
“My husband says when I drink a glass of water I make a face like it’s the most disgusting thing on earth,” Hart noted, adding that these days she’s discovering different types of tea for her hydration.
“I do hot tea, cold tea, green tea, peppermint tea, any kind of tea.”
