Meta extends Teen Accounts feature to Facebook, Messenger in Pakistan

Meta will roll out his “Teen Accounts” function for Facebook and Messenger in Pakistan to offer a safer and more suitable experience for teenagers.

The company said it will start with placing teenagers new in the app, and teenagers who already use Facebook and Messenger, already in Pakistan in Teen accounts in Teen accounts.

Hundreds of millions of teenagers already use teenage accounts on his platforms, including Facebook, Messenger and Instagram, Meta said.

The function is designed to strengthen online safety by automatically limiting those who can communicate teenagers, filtering the content they see and promote a healthier screen time.

“Teen Account Protections are designed to tackle the most important concerns of parents about automatic protection to limit their teenagers online and the content they see and to ensure that their time is well spent,” said a meta statement.

It added: “Although there is always more work to do, we are encouraged to see that teenage accounts bring parents more peace of mind when it comes to the online experiences of their teenagers.

“As part of Meta’s dedication to support parents and protect teenagers, the organization always works on new ways to keep teenagers safe on its apps.”

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said: “We want parents to feel good about their teenagers who use social media. We know that teenagers use apps such as Instagram to make contact with friends and explore their interests, and they should be able to do this without worrying about unsafe or inappropriate experiences.”

He added: “Teen accounts were designed to reassure parents. Since we are launched on Instagram a year ago, we have added limits to teenagers who go live, more limitations in DMs, and also improved our ability to ensure that people aged age are suitable for use and teenagers use our apps.
