Michael Douglas talks about shared pain with Rob Reiner as fathers

Michael Douglas shared how he and Rob Reiner bonded over raising sons with drug problems.

During the CBS News‘ special Rob Reiner: Scenes from a LifeMichael praised Rob as a dedicated parent who gives his best professionally, despite his son Nick’s serious drug and mental problems.

“With this terrible tragedy, we realize the pressure he faced in his personal life with his son,” Michael said, referring to the murders of Rob and his wife and Michele.

For those unfamiliar, Rob’s son Nick has been arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the brutal murder of his parents.

Michael went on to share his own struggles in dealing with a son with addiction issues: “I also had a son who had drug problems. And I’m happy to say that he has overcome them and is living a prosperous life.”

He openly acknowledged the limitations of parents and that they cannot control everything.

“But we talked about that a lot: what you can do as a parent, what you can’t do,” he noted

“So knowing that this was all happening behind the scenes, this was a man who always gave you his best,” praised Michael Rob, who directed one of Hollywood’s hit films, including When Harry met Sally, The princess bride and much more.

Douglas himself starred in films The American president (1995) and And so it goes (2014), directed by Michael.

Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles apartment on December 14 by their daughter Romy Reiner.

According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Rob and Michele’s causes of death were due to multiple sharp force injuries.
