Miley Cyrus says she’s stress-free at an awards show where there’s no competition, as she was honored at the Palm Springs Film Awards.
Giving an example of an awards show she attended, the pop icon says that creators are often pitted against each other at award shows, which she says is not appropriate for an artist.
“So often during awards season we are set up as competitors, but we are meant to be a community, not adversaries. There is no one best; it is just our personal best work,” she believes.
According to Miley, there is a difference between sports and making art when it comes to ranking. “Numbers can make it feel like a sport, but performance goes so much deeper than a scoreboard, because each artist bares their soul in a completely unique way and each contribution leaves its own mark on history.”
The 33-year-old also suggests that when creating art, authenticity is most important, adding, “Whether you are in this industry or not, we all have a personality, even those rooted in authenticity, because self-creation is an art form, and we all perform sincerely.”
That’s what Miley says her ethos is. “That’s something I really admire about award-winning actors and actresses as well as the drag queens of Toucans: they’re kind of the same.”
Meanwhile, the musician is being praised for her song Dream As One at Avatar: Fire and Ash at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
“You guys did a great job – if you’re available for the Oscars, that’s what we’re hoping for,” says The Climb hitmaker, before joking that the night was “truly the most elegant Palm Springs party I’ve ever been to. There are fewer drag queens than I like, but on the way back to LA I’ll stop by Toekans to get my fix.”
It is pertinent to mention that Miley received the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award at the Palm Springs Film Awards.
