Milly Alcock gets candid about dealing with trolls ahead of ‘Supergirl’

Milly Alcock on dealing with troll culture: ‘It sucks’

Milly Alcock, who has helped before House of the Dragon, is about to become a new face of another major franchise: DC’s Supergirl.

Although she is excited about her upcoming tentpole. Yet she is also preparing for a flood of trolls, she says, because a woman is leading a superhero movie.

“It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on,” she says Vanity fairand added, “We’re very comfortable with this strange possession of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”

Alcock, who has previously experienced attacks from trolls, told Nylon in 2022 that she avoids interacting with them “because it doesn’t benefit me.”

“It makes me incredibly worried,” she said at the time. “Seeing my face all the time is exhausting. No one should have to do that. It sucks, man.”

“I don’t know how the socialites of the world can do that. It kind of drives me off the wall. It’s an incredibly difficult space to navigate.”

Ignoring the trolls, what about the criticism from Hollywood heavyweights like Martin Scorsese and Ridley Scott, who had dismissed superhero cinema as “boring.”

“I understand,” she said in response. “They’ve been f****** always making phenomenal films. … Not every film is for everyone. The great thing about art is that you can be selective.”

Great girl hits theaters on June 26.
