Nick Reiner, the son of actor-director Rob Reiner and Michele Reiner, has been described as “entitled” by a family insider.
The 32-year-old, who has long struggled with addiction, reportedly wanted to “live a life that didn’t exist.”
Now accused of killing his parents, by the age of 22 he had been to rehab more than eighteen times.
Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on December 14. Nick was arrested the same evening.
He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
At his appearance in court on December 17, his lawyer did not enter a plea. The arraignment will continue on January 7.
A source close to the family also said this People that Rob and Michele felt “tremendous guilt” over their inability to help Nick completely turn his life around.
Nick co-wrote it in 2015 Being Charliea film based on his struggles, which Rob directed, hoping it would boost his self-confidence and give him a sense of direction.
Nick also once spoke about the lack of identity due to substance abuse and growing up in the shadow of his famous father and grandfather, Carl Reiner, who passed away in 2020.
The Reiners, who had two other children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, were described as a close-knit family who did everything they could to support Nick through his difficulties. Rob also had a daughter, Tracy, 61, from a previous relationship.
The case remains under investigation as legal proceedings continue.
