Oprah Winfrey rings in 72nd birthday with gym session after weight loss


Oprah Winfrey celebrated her 72nd birthday on Thursday with an intensive gym session.

The media icon shared a video on Instagram of herself deadlifting during a workout. The milestone saw her hit the gym in navy blue leggings, a blue long-sleeved top and white sneakers, while her hair was pulled back with a headband.

In the video, she completed several reps with a weighted barbell, then walked toward the camera and smiled.

She admitted that she once had no idea what deadlifting was. She joked that singer Adele had talked about deadlifting years earlier. Winfrey said at the time that she pretended to understand.

She also included a throwback clip from the 2021 interview where Adele talked about lifting heavy weights.

In the caption, Winfrey reflected on how life feels different at age 72. “Life at 72 looks different than any other decade. Two summers and two new knees ago, I decided to add strength training to my workouts because we all need to maintain muscle as we age.”

She added, “I can’t say I’m ready for the Olympics like Adele, but I definitely feel stronger. So, in honor of another journey around the sun for me, let’s try something new. You never know where it will lead you,” she further said in her caption.

Winfrey has been open about using GLP-1 medications like Ozempic or Wegovy as part of her weight loss journey. She also talked about lifestyle changes. These include exercising six days a week and giving up alcohol.

In recent interviews, she said she feels more at peace with age and described a reconnection with her body after knee surgery and weight loss.

“There is a sense of knowing that there is not much time left and I am at peace with it. There is a sense of urgency for me to live well,” she said on the radio. Today Show 2024.

“I really felt like I had a new opportunity to live in my body in a way that I hadn’t been able to do for years, because I was overweight, and being overweight made the knees even worse.”
