The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday fined the Pakistan cricket team 20% of the match fee for a slow over-ball during the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi on November 11.
According to the top cricket body, the green shirts were fined after it was found that they were four overs short of the target after time compensation was taken into account.
Ali Naqvi of the ICC Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers offenses relating to minimum overages.
Players are fined 5% of their match fee for each time their side fails to bowl within the allotted time.
The charge was raised by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Asif Yaqoob, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz.
The ICC said there was no need for a formal hearing after Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi accepted the proposed sanction.
Pakistan led the three-match series 1-0 after they defeated Sri Lanka by six points in Tuesday’s series opener.
Salman Ali Agha’s unbeaten century and Hussain Talat’s fifty took Pakistan to 299 for five in their allotted 50 overs.
The Green Shirts then restricted Sri Lanka to 293/9 in their allotted 50 overs despite Wanindu Hasaranga’s brave half-century.
Pacer Haris Rauf played with four wickets, Faheem Ashraf and Naseem Shah picked up two each, while Mohammad Nawaz bagged one.
The second match will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on November 14 after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a revised schedule for the series.
The revised schedule comes a day after a deadly explosion in Islamabad that left twelve dead and more than thirty injured.
As per the new schedule, the third and final ODI between the two sides will be played on November 16 at the same venue.
The two matches were previously scheduled for November 13 and 15 at the same location.
