The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finalized a plan for the upgrade of the National Bank Stadium Karachi, with renovation work expected to begin next month.

Sources said the revamp will include a redesign of the spectator areas, on the pattern of the recently upgraded Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The board also plans to improve the overall viewing experience through improved seating, better facilities and improved infrastructure.

National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium underwent an upgrade ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2024 hosted in Pakistan.

As part of the first phase of the renovation program, the National Bank Stadium Karachi received a major overhaul with the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art pavilion, the installation of large digital screens, modern LED floodlights and thousands of new spectator seats.

The newly built pavilion is equipped with international standard changing rooms for players and match officials, along with upgraded hospitality suites and media facilities designed to meet ICC requirements.

Meanwhile, sources said the PCB has no plans to immediately install roofs over the stands of Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Besides, the board is also working with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for the construction of a new cricket stadium in Islamabad, she added.

The management and operational control of the new Islamabad stadium will remain with the CDA, while the PCB will oversee the cricket operations and event management at the facility, the sources said.
