LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday confirmed that the Tri-Nation T20I series will go ahead as planned even after Afghanistan pulled out amid heightened tensions between the two neighboring countries.
This is what a PCB spokesperson said Geo news that the tournament, which will take place in Pakistan from November 17 to 29, will be held as per the original plan, with the board considering the possibilities of bringing in a replacement team.
The spokesperson added that the final decision will be announced soon.
Sources aware of the developments indicate that the PCB has approached the Zimbabwe Cricket Board as a potential replacement for Afghanistan. The tri-nation series was originally scheduled for Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, with the final scheduled to take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Islamabad and Kabul have witnessed heightened tensions since October 12 when Taliban forces and the Indian-backed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), alias Fitna al-Khawarij, resorted to an unprovoked attack on Pakistan.
Pakistani forces responded appropriately to the aggression, killing more than 200 Afghan Taliban and affiliated militants in a self-defense operation.
The military’s media wing said 23 soldiers embraced martyrdom during the clashes with the Taliban forces and the terrorists.
